Dear Community,
Sunday 10am Community Practice & Discussion
This week, Alex M will continue discussion of the first factor of the Noble Eightfold Path, Right View. Last week, we discussed the importance of Right View and the possibility of practicing this teaching in the context of our "mundane" lives. However, even the more subtle aspects of Right View can be explored directly in our practice. In Mindfulness, Joseph Goldstein encourages us to explore the selflessness of experience through practice with the Five Aggregates of Experience: physical form, feeling tones, perception, mental formations, and consciousness.
By directing attention consistently to how these aggregates combine to create our known experience, we can begin to notice the lack of ownership and control we possess. Specifically, Goldstein suggests that we can practice with noticing which aggregate is most predominant at any given moment. You might practice with this today and tomorrow morning: when is the sound of rain just a sound, versus a source of pleasure when it allows you to relax inside, or of displeasure when it disrupts your plans?
We hope you'll join us for a period of practice and reflection. All are welcome! Registration and Zoom information available here.
With metta (loving-kindness),
